We got referred to Johanna when my previously solid sleeper 6 year old started having issues at bedtime and with night wakings. He was very hard to settle at bed and got very worked up and then was waking up 1-3x a night and coming in our room for various issues. We used a sleep app and Melatonin as short term solves and then turned to Johanna for a longer term plan. Johanna was very thoughtful and methodical in her assessment of the situation and helped to evaluate our son’s sleep environment, schedule, and our strategies for practicing better sleep hygiene. With her guidance, we put together a plan to help our son feel more confident in going to sleep (with minimal to moderate parental involvement primarily via a checks system). She was diligent in her daily follow up and helpful in modifying our plan as we went throughout the process based on how it was all going. When we wrapped our work together, our son was on a much better path to better sleep! He is no longer getting upset regularly, doesn’t use the iPad or Melatonin, and better understands his role in the process as it relates to following sleep rules. We’re still working through some night wakings but have a good framework in place to deal with them thanks to Johanna!
